This week's eBay watch

What did we ever do B.E.? (before eBay) Here are some nice goodies being auctioned this week:

The architecture of fashion

I admit that I am a dedicated fashionista...at least as much as my wallet can afford (especially where shoes are concerned). A trend I noticed with many designers is that their fashions are also modernist, sculptural, even sensual--something for which modernism is not typically known. Here are some examples.

Next Generation Prefab

The site hasn't even launched yet, but there was a tantalizing advert in the October 2008 edition of Dwell for Logi:

Personally, I'll take door number three. :) (click to enlarge)

Dallas 'Big Home Tour' starts this weekend!

Don't forget!

Dates:
August 30-31, 2008
September 1, 6-7, 13-14, 2008

The Big Home Tour!
Presented by: Home Builders Association of Greater Dallas

http://www.thebighometour.com/

You can view the homes here. Unfortunately, none of them are overly modern in design (a huge problem here in Dallas), so I'm hoping it's what's inside that counts.

This ultimate NEW home open house will take place August 30 - September 14, 2008 across the entire metroplex. The tour will feature several different lifestyles including:

The Green Home Tour
The Luxury Edition
Affordable Housing
Back to School Specials
Master-Planned Communities
Urban Tour
Townhome Tour
Area Tours

Get a taste of the latest and greatest in new home trends.

FACT: 80% of homebuyers search for their home online. The Big Home Tour is here to increase your online presence. Just when you need it the most, the HBA is bringing a scattered-site tour to you. Don't get left behind!

The big one:

Why does everything "design cool" happen in Canada, eh? Here's one I'd personally love to visit:

IDS - Interior Design Show

Toronto Canada

And its sister show:

IDSwest - Interior Design Show West

Another one in Canada:

AIA's - Danish Modern, Then and Now

The good ones never seem to come to Dallas, of course, but at least New Orleans is close. Of course, we have to wait 3 years for it. :P

Jealous? Me? What makes you say that?

Someone I actually know lives in this lovely modern complex.

Can a building make your mouth water? :)

Hope my 1996 Civic can hold out till 2010

I've been saying for YEARS that it would be smart if someone could just come up with an air-driven car.

And now, it looks like they've finally listened to me. :)

Plus it's cute as a bug!

HGTV Design Star

The third season of HGTV's design star now has a winner, and it's that dimpled diva, Jennifer Bertrand!

Congratulations Jenn!

And here are the websites of the other designers in the contest. Personally, except for the CONSTANTFACEOFMIKEYV on his site, I like his designs best (strictly from a website perspective).

Modern Olympics

The 2008 Summer Olympics are upon us, and as such, Beijing has gone all out in designing and building some fantastic pieces of architecture for the summer games. Here are some pictures of the beauty and artistry of the opening ceremonies and Olympic buildings:

The "aqua cube" aquatic center all lit up for the opening ceremonies.

The "glowing globe" topped by Sarah Brightman and Chinese singer Liu Huan.

Sea of blue and green.

Precision.

One heck of a bird's nest!

A living zen garden.

I could carry a torch for that torch.

It's not easy being green.

The bird's nest on dazzling display.

All a-flutter.

Architectural and acrobatic.
